More Details and Program Highlights:

ÆPEX Fest 2022 centers around our main-stage performance at the Ypsi Freighthouse on the evening of Friday, June 3. This concert will be led by ÆPEX Music Director Kevin Fitzgerald and features mezzo-soprano Olivia Johnson and percussionist Cameron Leach in a program of astounding contemporary works for large chamber ensemble.

The week's activities open on the evening of Wednesday, June 1 with a free kick-off party and show at Ziggy's that includes outstanding sets by Cameron Leach, celebrated Detroit-based pianist/composer Michael Malis, and more. The festival then continues on the evening of Thursday, June 2 with Olivia Johnson in a spectacular solo recital of new art songs at First Presbyterian Church. After Friday night's main-stage performance, ÆPEX Fest concludes on Saturday, June 4 with our "Electronic Music Field Day" full of free, public events featuring a range of electronic music performances catered to specific locations in Ypsilanti. Detroit-based composer and electronics soloist Joo Won Park will headline our festival-closing party and show Saturday night in Depot Town!

The festival’s full program encompasses an enormous range of contemporary styles, from chamber music to electronic improvisation, and even includes the thrilling world premiere of a percussion chamber concerto entitled This Could Be Madness composed by our very own Executive Director, Garrett Schumann.

We are also very excited to showcase new and longstanding partnerships with local venues and arts organizations through ÆPEX Fest’s programming. These include our return to First Presbyterian Church (the site of our debut concert in 2015!), our festival-opening event at Ziggy’s, where we first performed in September 2021, and our community-centered “Electronic Field Day” programming, which highlights our new partnership with public art presenter Embracing Our Differences Southeast Michigan.

Tickets and more information will be made available in April! So, please follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and/or subscribe to our newsletter to stay up-to-date with all our exciting announcements about ÆPEX Fest 2022!
